An exciting opportunity has arisen to be a part of Barnsley’s community development approach supporting people to enjoy better physical and mental health. Almost 40% of adults in Barnsley do not meet the Chief Medical Officer’s recommended levels of physical movement for good health. As a community connector, you will be key to ensuring the views and feelings of the local community are understood and acted upon to help people to Move More. Live Well. Feel Better.

The roles will be hosted by the Sport and Physical Activity Team on behalf of the Active in Barnsley Partnership, and it will be based in local communities working with a variety of groups, the Area Council Teams and other services to help coordinate and connect people with opportunities to move more. This role will help the development of new activities or the promotion of existing opportunities that can help people to move more for better health which can mean different things to different people.

Your role in our journey

As a Community Connector, you will support a dedicated Area Council area to help ensure moving more can reach as many people as possible for positive behaviour change and better health. You will need to be able to display:

• You are excellent with people and can engage in a range of environments.

• Experience of community development or engagement.

• Knowledge of the things that help or act as a barrier to people moving more.

• Experience of community and partner engagement.

• A strength in working with local groups and partners to promote activities and behaviour that helps people to move more.

• An understanding and appreciation of how physical activity can help people and communities.

Working in close partnership with colleagues across the council and a host of statutory, community and voluntary groups, you will lend your engagement expertise to programmes promoting the various ways that help people to increase their levels of physical activity.

What you’ll need

To join us, you’ll need to be passionate about local community development, and experience in how to use the benefits of moving more to support a range of people. With a flair for public engagement and partnership working, it is your talent for working with people that really sets you apart.

We’re thrilled to have achieved Investors in People (IIP) Gold status for how we lead, support, and develop people. Now we’d like you to be part of our success and help us use physical activity as a tool to help residents Move More. Live Well. Feel Better. Join us on our journey to a brighter future.
