Sports Outreach Support Volunteers
Hosted by: Barnsley Samaritans

Barnsley Samaritans provide help and support to Barnsley residents around emotional wellbeing and mental health support.

We are currently doing some targeted work at the various Sports Clubs here in Barnsley to help promote the work that we do and encourage people to know that it is ok to talk.

We are currently looking for Sports Outreach Support Volunteers that can offer about 2 hours a week to help us spread the word about what support Barnsley Samaritans can offer and be a familiar, friendly face so people know where they can get support.

We will be hosting stalls and events all across Barnsley at football, cricket and rugby clubs, as well as at gyms and sporting matches, including events at Barnsley FC. No sport is off limits.

If you are interested in promoting Mental Health support and are into sports of any kind, then this role is for you. Not only will you be volunteering for a good cause, you may also get to see a few sporting matches at the same time!

There are a range of sporting events happening across the borough that you can get involved with, on all days of the week so the role can be very flexible to suit.

The role will include setting up our stalls, handing out leaflets, balloons and pens and just being a presence and friendly face on the stall.

By being a Sports Outreach Support Volunteer you can gain a real insight into mental health support, particularly male support and help make a real difference to people in Barnsley.

Skills and quaifications:

There are no formal skills required for this role apart from being enthusiastic about the Samaritans and the work that we do.

All our outreach events have a team of three volunteers that attend, including a trained Listening Volunteer, so you will not be expected to talk to people about their mental health.

You will also not be expected to carry all the material to the event. Transport can be arranged from our branch or the team can meet you at events with the equipment all ready.

You will attend a half-day training sessions before going out on events and will be provided with a volunteer T shirt and ID lanyard.
