The Barnsley Superstar volunteer group have been making free face covering for the community for the past six weeks. They have been going from strength to strength and to date (1 July 2020) have made over 5700 face coverings for the community, handing them out to friends, family, neighbours and anyone who needs one. They have 102 volunteers and have contributed a huge 1267 hours of their time already.
These coverings are reusable and they are being made in a wide range of colourful fabrics!
One volunteer Jan said - "Sewing has given me a strong sense that, even in my mid-70s, I can do something to help people in my home town and community. I believe that if we all do a little to help each other the world will be a better place for us all"
Another volunteer Cheryl said "Taking part in this project has helped keep me busy during lockdown it's great that we can come together and use our skills to benefit our local community and to help others"
If you would like an adult face covering from the project, please do email ClaireDawson@barnsley.gov.uk, who will be able to arrange delivery from one of their fantastic volunteers.
The face coverings are provided for free, however if you would like to make a donation, the project is raising funds for the Barnsley Hospital Charity and you can donate by clicking here.
